El Dandi Pituco

Yesterday, I listened to an interview of the ex Peruvian president Francisco Sagasti (Lima 1944), where he was explaining his answer after the question of if he will run for president in 2026. He didn’t say no! He just pointed in the fact that a man of 80 or more can give physically and mentally what he needs to accomplish as president.

Alberto Fujimori (Lima or Kawachi-Machi…It’s not clear…1935) will be candidate at almost 91 years old in 2026! Doesn’t surprise me, because after being in jail for a long time, (Released and sent back with an unclear presidential pardon that needed to be interpreted and reinterpreted many times by different national and international institutions), he may need immunity for new cases of humanity crimes perpetrated during his past governments. Just a review about president legal status from Fujimori to the present:

1.Alberto Fujimori (17 years in jail now free)

2.Valentin Paniagua ( No Charges and died by natural causes)

3.Alejandro Toledo ( In Jail first in the USA and now in Peru accused of corruption).

4.Ollanta Humala (His status is pending since he has two different tribunal processes since years; one for abuse of authority and murder when he was captain of the army and the second is for corruption; he is waiting for the veredict since years.

5. Alan Garcia (Killed himself after they wanted to arrest him for corruption charges)

6. Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (He’s at home arrest in consideration of his age and health problems, he is years in this Status Quo without an open process investigated of corruption.

7. Manuel Merino (Was president for a few days, he considered himself not addapt to confront the difficult political situation in the country, he is investigated for the death of 2 people during his short president term. I need to add that he asked for the pension as expresident, in his past his highlight was to be the driver of ex president Toledo.

8. Martin Vizcarra (Is in controlled freedom acussed for abuse of office and corruption)

9. Francisco Sagasti (he is writing books enjoying life without any legal problem.)

10. Pedro Castillo (In prison, being processed for disruption of the democracy, after he wanted to freeze the parlament.

11. Dina Boluarte (Already being investiged to be who ordered the execution of 50 citizens killed by snippers during violent protests all over the country)

So it will be easy for me to say, that I would like to invite Francisco Sagasti to lunch and to ask him why people during his government so impolitely called him: Dandy and Pituco, for speaking according to his charge and education, to give almost everyday press conferences and to wear, yes, as only “criminal prove” a long elegant silk handkerchief around his neck. Peruvians needs to hope for another Dandy Pituco like Sagasti to be next president.
