Carlos Fitzcarrald (Fitzgerald) was not just a Peruvian businessman, but an explorer, or better an Explorer Business Man. He went through the most unknown and dangerous jungle to search for an Isthmus, to be able to connect the larger Peruvian jungle rivers with the focus in the Amazonas as destination! The longest river on earth. He was the state and the owner of the different native populations! 1000 people transported for 30km the pieces of a boat through the jungle of the Isthmus of Fitzcarrald (Now it has his name)! He lived just 35 years, and died trying to save one of his partners after the crash of his boat against the river rocks! He wanted to make of Iquitos a city like Manaus! He built a theatre and took Enrico Caruso to sing! He created a railway that crossed his Isthmus, he was transporting it in pieces through the jungle as well!
This happened in 1894! Iquitos in Peru in the year 2024(After 130 years) still doesn’t have a railway or a road of connection. It is isolated! It’s just possible to travel through the river or by airplane! The 1Million people living there, are living more in a prison island, even if located on the Continent! They don’t have a hospital. People like Fitzcarrald believes that there are no limitations for work and determination. The boat he transported through the jungle(The Contamana) still makes us reflect about the power of thinking. And how the facts are for men and the corruption and laziness for the politicians!
